Journey

The Upper Berth Passenger mused -

The train looked unusually crowded. The reason (as i came to know later) was that summer vacations were about to end in Delhi and hence all the tiny (and not so tiny) tots were returning back after a (well spent ?) vacation in the South. Across me was a 30 something parent of two kids (a girl and a boy). There was an air of resignation about him as he amused his kids with stories, commanded his kids to behave well, made them eat properly, took them to the loo etc etc. Well where was the wife? For reasons known or unknown she was quiet, took long naps and allowed the hubby to take good care of the kids. A casual conversation with the man revealed that his employers sponsor an yearly vacation during which he brings the kids to his home town, owns an apartment in Delhi (and is burdened by the EMI's), was an voracious reader before marriage and is looking at good investment products to save money for the future of his children as well as his own. He also regaled me with tales about his love marriage, how he had spent 3 years running behind his wife and how well she takes care of the home. The couple doted over their kids (one of which was a brat) and hardly had any time to spend with each other.

Thus went the entire trip and when the train reached the station, the kids jumped out happily, the wife stepped out gingerly leaving the man to carry all the baggage and trudge behind wearily ....

The Upper Berth Passenger sighed deeply and started rethinking his priorities in life !!
